SharePoint Shield
This Article Applies to:
- Avast Small Business Solutions
The SharePoint component for Windows Servers is specifically meant to protect your SharePoint Server from threats without interfering in its function. It is a security plugin that you install on your SharePoint server. SharePoint Shield will scan all uploaded and downloaded files to prevent malicious documents from infecting your business data and it will block ransomware attacks. If the plugin discovers a harmful document, it will quarantine it and alert the user.
SharePoint Shield is not visible in the main UI components/features list, but is only visible in the settings.
Supported SharePoint Versions
Microsoft SharePoint server versions 2010 and later are supported.
Prerequisites
SharePoint must be installed prior to installing Avast Business Antivirus in order for the application to be detected and the plugin installed.
If SharePoint is installed afterward, the SharePoint component would need to be added using Control Panel's Change option in Programs and Features (or via Business Hub in case of managed devices).
Configuring SharePoint Settings
Advanced SharePoint Shield settings can be accessed by navigating to Menu > Settings > Protection > SharePoint. You can also enable/disable the component here using the dedicated toggle.

In this section, you can define how SharePoint handles an uncleanable object. It can either deny access to or replace the object with a warning.

Any malicious activity detected will be written to the Windows Event Log - you can select several logging options:
- Low: Errors & viruses only
- Normal: Warning, errors, & viruses
- High: For more detail in Avast logs
- Maximum: For the max detail in Avast logs

There are no other advanced controls for the SharePoint Shield in the client UI. In case of managed devices, however, there is an additional option in the Business Hub that lets you specify which packer files Avast should try to unpack during the scanning process (see SharePoint Shield).
