Password Protection

This Article Applies to:

  • Avast Business Hub

Password Protection is a component that helps secure your browser-stored passwords against theft by preventing applications and malware from viewing, changing, or deleting them. It supports passwords stored in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge, and Avast Secure Browser.

These settings require at least Antivirus version 22.2 to be installed on the end devices.

In Policies, select Service settings, then expand the Password Protection section at the bottom.

Unknown Applications

Choose what to do when an unknown application tries to access browser-stored passwords.

  • Give user an option to block or allow access: the end user will see a pop-up requesting input to block or allow an application
  • Silently block the access: the end user will not see anything requesting input, and the application will be automatically blocked unless it is specifically allowed on the Applications list

Mode

Decide whether or not the Applications list you define overrides any local configuration the end user has determined.

Applications List

You can block or allow specific applications in this section. These application settings will override your setting in Unknown applications, and potentially the local configuration.

  1. Click + Add application
  2. Enter the application path with the allowed wildcards if necessary
  3. Select whether the application is Allowed or Blocked
  4. Click Add application

Allowed Wildcards

If necessary, you can specify any system variables available on the target device(s), and you can use direct file paths.
