Shutting Down and Restarting Devices

This Article Applies to:

  • Avast Business Hub

When you change an assigned policy, subscription, or update the virus definitions or Antivirus program, you may need to restart the device so the change takes effect. For this task, you can choose an option for when the warning message to users is displayed and decide if the shutdown happens immediately, is scheduled to happen later, and if it recurs on a regular basis.

Shutting Down Devices

  1. If you would like to only manage tasks for a specific site/customer, select a customer from the drop-down menu
  2. Navigate to the Devices page
  3. Do one of the following:
    • For a single device: Click the More button next to the device and click Shutdown.
    • For multiple devices: Select the checkboxes of the devices you want to update, click More, then click Shutdown.
  1. Before confirming the action in the pop-up, you can allow the user(s) to postpone the shutdown for up to 8 hours by ticking the respective checkbox
  2. Click Shutdown

The user(s) will be notified 5 minutes before the restart.

Restarting Devices

  1. If you would like to only manage tasks for a specific site/customer, select a customer from the drop-down menu
  2. Navigate to the Devices page
  3. Do one of the following:
    • For a single device: Click the More button next to the device and click Restart
    • For multiple devices: Select the checkboxes of the devices you want to update, then click Restart
  1. Choose between restarting the device(s) immediately or at a specific time of a chosen day.
  2. Before confirming the action in the pop-up, you can allow the user(s) to postpone the shutdown for up to 8 hours by ticking the respective checkbox.
  3. Click Restart

The user(s) will be notified 5 minutes before the restart.

Note that some devices might miss a scheduled restart due to time zone differences. For instance, if at 8 a.m. you schedule a restart for 9 a.m. that same day and a device's time zone is two hours ahead, the device will not be restarted since that time has already passed on the device.

To see how to set up automatic restarts via policies instead, refer to Configuring Automatic Restarts.
